It’s no secret that I have had quite a few crashes with my iPhone since upgrading to the 2.0.2 firmware, and subsequently I have spent more than my fair share of time moving application icons from page to page trying to get things arranged how they were “pre-crash”. On top of that, often updating an app will cause it to move to the first open space on your iPhone, even if that spot is on page 1 and the app used to be on page 3. If, like me you often have 3, 4, 8 (or more) full pages of apps to rearrange after each crash, this time can quickly add up, as dragging an app between pages will push all the apps down one spot.
Luckily for you, I have discovered an easy trick that will help save you a ton of time the next time you need to move an application’s position between pages without messing up all the pages in between. Here’s how:
Step 1: Scroll to your last page (the rightmost one) and then press and hold any application until they begin to wiggle (this means they can be moved).
Step 2: Drag the 4 bottom-most icons out of the dock, and up to the main screen (I often create a new page for them, by tapping the right edge of the screen when in “wiggle” mode).
Step 3: Now, with your now-empty dock, scroll back to the left and find the first 4 apps you’d like to move.
Step 4: Drag the icons you’d like to move into your dock, and then scroll between pages, using the dock as a “4 app shuttle” to move the icons between screens.
Step 5: When you’re done, go back to your last page, drag your “top 4 apps” back down into the dock, press the round “Home” button on the iPhone, and you’re done.

Thanks. I’m sure that this tip will prove to be very useful until Apple provide better App management options.

this is crafty way of doing it but in the end, Apple should fix this small but irritating problem!

Excellent tip, i hope i won’t have to use it after 2.1 update.
Thanks

The 2.1 update (out this week) remembers app location when updating, so the new app now fills its old spot when finished.
Also the faster backups, app installation and updates; and bug fixes should reduce amount of system restoring we’ll have to do.
This tip will still be handy when installing a bunch of new apps and then mass deleting all the useless apps though!

What up with moving the icons out of the main screen and flip them over to the screen where you want them to have? I don’t check out what’s special here with using the dock for it?
